Ed Hamilton

Meet one of the world’s greatest sculptors Ed Hamilton. He gained national recognition for his works such as the African American Civil War Memorial also known as “The Spirit of Freedom” which was dedicated in Washington D.C. Hampton is the first African American sculptor to have a major sculpture on federal land anywhere in the District of Columbia.

He’s also known for the Unfinished March featuring Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali’s iron boxing gloves, Abraham Lincoln Memorial, Joe Louis Memorial and The Amistad Memorial just to name a few of the many works all over the United States.

You’ve seen his work all over the world now meet the man with the vision.  Meet renowned sculptor Ed Hamilton, a native of Louisville, Kentucky.  Hamilton created the “Unfinished March” featuring Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  He’s garnered national recognition for many of his works such as the African American Civil War Memorial also known as “The Spirit of Freedom” which was dedicated in Washington, D.C.  He’s the first African American sculptor to have a major sculpture on federal land anywhere in the District of Columbia

Another major sculpture was unveiled along the Ohio River waterfront in downtown Louisville.  “The Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park”, a 12’statue of the 16th President of the United States, and four bas reliefs which highlight four stages of his life and his rich connection to the state of Kentucky.  Lincoln, a native of Hodgenville, Kentucky moved into the White House where pushed for the end of slavery during his term as president.

  •  The Joe Louis Memorial in Detroit, MI,
  • The Booker T. Washington Memorial dedicated May 12, 1984,
  • Whitney M. Young Jr. dedicated in Frankfort, Kentucky on the Kentucky State University campus and
